How to Walk the Dog
Walking the dog is a retrieve technique that generates a gliding, side-to-side zigzag action using small rod tip movements. After casting and letting the lure settle, create slack in the line between the lure and rod tip, then twitch the tip. The lure will travel forward. Drop the rod tip back to create slack again and the lure will glide sideways — then repeat.
This technique creates maximum surface disturbance while keeping the lure in the strike zone longer. Because the lure moves sideways rather than purely forward, fish that are attracted will find it still there when they arrive. For best results, retrieve into any current or breeze across your target zone.
