How to Fish the Jitterbug

Standard retrieve: Cast it out and reel in just fast enough for the lure to swim side to side, gurgling and plopping across the surface. The commotion it creates draws fish in from a distance — be ready, because strikes are sudden and hard.

Stop-and-Go: Cast near likely structure, let it rest for a few seconds, reel a short distance, then stop and let it rest again. Repeat all the way in. This technique is particularly deadly at night and when fish are reluctant to commit on a straight retrieve.

Always target the edges — cast right to the margins of structure to draw fish out.
