The SeaKnight SANGE II is a carbon telescopic travel rod designed for medium to medium-heavy lure fishing across estuary, coastal and freshwater environments. Available in spinning and casting (baitcasting) configurations at 2.1m and 2.4m in two lure weight ratings: 7–25g and 10–30g. Collapses to 53–57cm for transport and travel. Suited to flathead, bream, trevally, bass and light snapper fishing with soft plastics, hard bodies and metal lures.

Fast Action Carbon Blank

The SANGE II blank is rated fast action — the rod’s primary bend point is in the upper third of the blank, toward the tip. Fast action is the standard blank profile for lure fishing for several reasons:

• Lure control: with the bend concentrated near the tip, the lower two-thirds of the blank remain relatively stiff during the retrieve; this stiffness transmits the angler’s rod tip movements directly into lure action — a twitch, jerk or lift of the rod butt produces an immediate, sharp lure movement rather than being absorbed by a soft mid-blank bend; for soft plastics, metal vibes and hard body lures where deliberate rod tip movements create the lure action, a fast blank is more responsive than a moderate or slow action
• Hook setting power: when a fish takes a lure and the angler strikes, a fast action blank transfers the force of the strike into the hook quickly and directly; the stiff lower section of the blank does not absorb the strike energy before it reaches the hook the way a soft or moderate blank would; at 7–30g lure weights and 20–25lb line, the hook sizes involved (size 2 through 2/0 trebles on hard bodies, 1/0 through 3/0 on jig heads) require a firm, immediate hook set to drive the point past the barb
• Sensitivity: a stiffer blank transmits vibration from the lure along the rod to the handle more efficiently than a soft blank; for metal vibes fished on the bottom, soft plastics hopped over reef and structure, and hard bodies running through current, the vibration transmitted through a fast blank tells the angler what the lure is contacting below the surface

Lure Weight Ratings — 7–25g vs 10–30g

The SANGE II is available in two lure weight ratings that determine which lure types and fishing environments each variant suits:

• 7–25g: the lighter rating; covers small to mid-weight lures including 1/8 to 3/4oz jig heads with soft plastics, 7–20g metal vibes and blades, and mid-size hard body diving lures; suited to estuary fishing for flathead, bream and trevally, and impoundment bass and trout fishing with lighter presentations; pairs with spinning reels in the 2500–4000 class or BFS/light baitcasting reels
• 10–30g: the heavier rating (MH power); suited to heavier soft plastics on 1/2–3/4oz jig heads, 15–30g metal vibes, surface poppers and stickbaits in the 15–25g range; better suited to rock and beach fishing for trevally, tailor and light snapper; also covers light offshore applications from boats where 20–30g lures are common; pairs with spinning reels in the 3000–5000 class or medium baitcasting reels

Note: always verify your selected lure weight sits within the rod’s rated range before fishing; using lures at or above the maximum rated weight increases load on the guide rings and blank and is not recommended.

Telescopic Construction — Travel Ready

The SANGE II collapses from its fishing length (2.1m or 2.4m) to a packed length of 53–57cm. The telescopic sections slide into each other along the blank, reducing the rod to approximately the length of a large umbrella for transport. Key features of the SANGE II’s telescopic construction:

• ABS plastic guide protectors: the ceramic guide rings are covered by ABS plastic caps during storage and transport, protecting the rings from impact damage when the rod is collapsed in a bag or rod tube

Ceramic Guide Rings

The SANGE II uses ceramic guide ring inserts in the guide frames. Ceramic rings provide a smooth, hard surface for the line to pass through during the cast and retrieve. The hardness of the ceramic surface resists grooving from repeated line contact — particularly important for braided PE line, which can cut grooves into softer guide materials over time; a grooved guide ring creates a sharp edge that damages the line on subsequent casts. Ceramic guides also dissipate heat generated by friction during long casts more efficiently than standard stainless rings, maintaining ring integrity over a high-volume casting session.

Reel Seat and Handle

The reel seat is a high-strength composite construction with a non-slip grip surface that locks the reel foot firmly without the reel shifting under load during the cast or fight. The handle uses high-density EVA foam in a split grip configuration — the split grip places grip material at the fore grip and rear grip positions but removes material from the mid-handle section, reducing overall handle weight and exposing the blank in the grip region to improve blank sensitivity transmission into the angler’s hand.

Spinning vs Casting Configuration

• Spinning: guides face downward (toward the water), reel seat oriented for a spinning reel mounted below the rod; the standard configuration for most lure fishing applications with spinning reels; suitable for anglers using PE braid or monofilament on spinning reels in the 2500–5000 class
• Casting: guides face upward, reel seat oriented for a baitcasting reel mounted above the rod; for anglers using baitcasting reels who want the precision and power advantage of a trigger-grip casting outfit; more common in bass and heavy lure fishing applications where baitcasting reels provide better control of heavier presentations
