The Kingdom 3507 Floating Minnow Crankbait is a 50mm/10.5g hard body lure with a diving lip, internal rattle ball and 3D laser fish scale finish. The floating lip-diver dives on the retrieve and rises to the surface on the pause — the key action is the combination of the wide S-swimming wobble on the retrieve and the rise-and-suspend trigger on each pause that imitates a baitfish losing depth control. Suits light to medium spin outfits for bass, flathead, bream and inshore species in freshwater and estuaries. 5 colour variants. $16.95.

Note: 50mm is the body length excluding the diving lip.

Action and Movement

The minnow body shape combined with the diving lip produces two simultaneous swimming properties: a tight wobble on the body’s vertical axis and a wide S-shaped lateral swing from side to side on the retrieve. The wide S-action creates a larger pressure wave and more displacement than a straight-tracking minnow, making the lure detectable to predators via their lateral line sense at greater range than the visual profile of a 50mm lure would suggest. The internal steel rattle ball adds an audible component — the ball strikes the inside of the lure body on each change in direction, producing a click that carries through the water and adds a sound trigger to the visual and pressure-wave triggers already generated by the swimming action.

Floating Lip-Diver — Rise-and-Suspend Pause

A floating lip-diver sinks when the retrieve is stopped and floats upward when the retrieve is stopped — the opposite of a suspending or sinking minnow. On the pause, the lure slowly rises toward the surface, imitating a baitfish that has lost depth control or is struggling to maintain position. This rising action during the pause can be a significant trigger for following fish that won’t commit on a steady retrieve — the change in direction (down on retrieve, up on pause) creates an erratic, injured appearance that triggers the predator’s strike instinct at the moment of hesitation.

Retrieve Techniques

  • Straight retrieve — constant medium retrieve speed; the lure swims at a consistent depth with the full wide S-action; suits active fish in open water where covering ground quickly and presenting a healthy, confident baitfish is the priority
  • Stop and go (jerk and pause) — twitch the rod tip to make the lure dart forward, then pause; the lure darts, pauses and rises; the combination of the dart and the upward float during the pause imitates a distressed or injured baitfish; most strikes on this technique occur on the pause as the lure rises
  • Slow roll and pause — very slow retrieve with periodic pauses; gentler action than stop-and-go; suited to cold water, pressured fish or low-activity conditions where a more subtle, natural presentation outperforms an aggressive action

Key Features

  • Diving lip — angled lip on the nose drives the lure down on the retrieve; lure depth is controlled by retrieve speed and lip angle; rises on the pause
  • Internal steel rattle ball — single steel ball inside the lure body strikes the interior on direction changes, producing an audible click that adds a sound trigger to complement the visual and pressure-wave action; effective in low-visibility water and at range
  • Wide S-swimming action — exaggerated lateral S-track on the retrieve creates a large pressure wave detectable by predators via the lateral line at distances beyond the visual range of a 50mm lure
  • 3D laser fish scale finish — laser-etched scale pattern reflects light at different angles as the lure swings on the retrieve; maintains appearance through extended use without fading
  • Streamlined body — low wind resistance for casting distance on light spin outfits; the 10.5g weight is sufficient for easy casting on spin rods from 6–8 weight
  • Floating — returns to the surface on the pause; avoids snagging on the bottom during stop-and-go retrieves
