The SeaKnight X9 is a 9-strand PE braided fishing line with ultra-density wide-angle construction, a two-layer UV-proof and seawater-proof silicone resin coating, and water-based dyeing technology (patent-exclusive). Available in seven line classes from #0.8/17LB to #6.0/80LB, in 150m, 300m and 500m spool lengths, across four colours: Low-Vis Green, Hi-Vis Yellow, Multi-Color and Low-Vis Gray. 9-Strand Ultra Density Construction
Standard braided PE lines use 4 or 8 strands. The X9 uses 9 strands, woven at a wide angle using advanced wide-angle braiding technology. The 9-strand count and wide-angle weave have two structural consequences:
Rounder cross-section: 4-strand braid has a square-ish cross-section; 8-strand braid is rounder; 9-strand at ultra density is rounder still; a round cross-section reduces the braid’s tendency to dig into itself on the spool during casting, which can create friction and inconsistent line release; a rounder line also contacts the guide ring surface consistently around its full circumference rather than presenting a flat or angular face to the ring on the retrieve, reducing the friction and vibration that a non-round braid generates at guide surfaces
Harder, denser outer surface: ultra-density wide-angle braiding produces a tighter, more compact braid with less gap between strand crossings; this denser surface is more resistant to abrasion from guide rings, rocks, timber and underwater structure than a lower-density weave at equivalent strand count; the outer strands take abrasion before any load reaches the inner strand structure
Two-Layer Coating System
The X9 uses a two-layer coating applied over the braided PE core:
Ultraviolet-proof coating: PE fibre degrades under sustained UV exposure; the strength and colour of untreated braid decline measurably after seasons of use in direct sunlight and high-UV environments; the UV-proof coat forms a barrier between sunlight and the PE fibre; for Australian fishing conditions — beach casting, offshore boat fishing, rock platforms and open-water kayak fishing where the braid is directly sun-exposed during use and storage — UV protection extends both the line’s strength retention and its colour life across the season
Seawater-proof coating: salt crystals that penetrate between braid strands create internal abrasion as the line flexes through the cast and retrieve cycle; each flexion grinds the salt crystals against the PE fibres from inside the braid; the seawater-proof coat seals the strand interstices against salt penetration, preventing this internal abrasion mechanism; relevant for all saltwater and estuary use
Updated silicone resin outer coat: the silicone resin provides two additional properties at the line surface; first, heat dissipation — PE braid passing through guide rings at high speed during a long cast or a fast-running fish generates heat from friction; PE fibres that exceed their thermal tolerance lose tensile strength at the heat exposure point; silicone resin dissipates this heat more quickly than uncoated PE, reducing thermal degradation at the guide contact zone; second, wear resistance — the silicone coat takes the guide ring abrasion before it reaches the PE fibres underneath, extending the line’s working life at the critical guide contact points
Water-Based Dyeing
The X9 uses SeaKnight’s patent-exclusive water-based dyeing process. Conventional braid dyeing applies colour to the fibre surface; water-based dyeing penetrates the fibre and locks the dye within the fibre structure rather than on its surface. The practical difference: surface-dyed braid loses colour rapidly in saltwater, UV and abrasion; water-based dyed braid maintains colour through extended use because the dye is inside the fibre rather than on it. The UV-proof coating further protects the dye from UV-driven photodegradation. The water-based process is also RoHS-compliant and more environmentally sustainable than solvent-based dyeing methods.
Lab Break Strength
The stated break strengths are conservative rated values. The 80LB (#6.0) X9 breaks at 95LB in actual laboratory testing — a 19% safety margin above the stated rating. This margin exists throughout the line class range; the stated ratings represent the strength the line will reliably deliver in normal fishing use, with actual break strength meaningfully above the label rating.

Colour Selection Guide
Low-Vis Green: the most versatile all-round colour; green blends with the tannin-stained and algae-green water of Australian estuaries, rivers and impoundments; suited to finesse fishing in clear-to-moderate visibility estuary water where line visibility to the fish is a concern
Hi-Vis Yellow: high-visibility colour for surf, beach and boat fishing where the angler reads line angle and movement to detect bites and bottom contact; the high contrast against water surface and sky makes even subtle line movement visible at distance; also useful in heavy current where watching line angle indicates lure position and depth
Multi-Color: changes colour in regular length intervals (typically every 10m); allows the angler to read cast distance and lure depth from the colour visible at the rod tip; particularly useful for surfcasting distance management, vertical jigging depth control and bottom fishing where knowing the lure depth relative to the structure is critical
Low-Vis Gray: the most subtle colour in both green and blue water; gray disappears in offshore blue water more effectively than green, and in clear-water estuary situations where green can be visible to pressured fish; suited to light-leader, clear-water fishing and offshore applications
Spool Length and Fill Note
The X9 is available in 150m, 300m and 500m spool lengths. Each length uses the same bobbin size regardless of line class: the finer diameters (0.14–0.16mm) will appear to have more space in the bobbin visually than the heavier diameters (0.32–0.40mm) on the same 150m/300m/500m bobbin. This is normal — the line length is the same; the lower physical mass of the finer line simply occupies less spool volume at equivalent length.
