The Piscifun Carbon X II is a full-carbon spinning reel with an all-carbon fibre body, rotor and side plate, a carbon fibre drag system, CNC machined hollow aluminium spool and 10+1 double-sealed stainless bearings. Available in 1000, 2000 and 3000 sizes across two gear ratios — 6.2:1 and 5.2:1. Weight from 156g (1000-size). Drag: 4kg (1000) and 10kg (2000 and 3000). Full Carbon Fibre Body, Rotor and Side Plate
Most spinning reels described as “carbon” use carbon fibre reinforced polymer in the body only, with a conventional polymer or graphite rotor. The Carbon X II specifies all-carbon construction in all three primary structural housings:
Body: the main gear housing; carbon fibre maintains dimensional rigidity under the torsional loads of the drive mechanism and the lateral stress of fighting a fish at maximum drag; carbon fibre’s stiffness at low mass allows the housing to resist deflection that would misalign the gear mesh and introduce roughness into the retrieve
Rotor: the rotating arm that carries the bail and line roller; the rotor is the largest rotating mass in a spinning reel and the most significant contributor to the reel’s rotational inertia; a lighter rotor accelerates more quickly at the start of the retrieve and decelerates more quickly when the retrieve stops; the carbon fibre rotor’s lower mass reduces this inertia, producing a more responsive retrieve feel and faster sensitivity to changes in line tension during the retrieve than a polymer or glass-fibre rotor at equivalent size
Side plate: the cover over the drive mechanism; carbon fibre side plate maintains precise side-plate-to-body alignment under load, preserving the gear mesh geometry across the full drag range
Carbon Fibre Drag System
The Carbon X II uses an upgraded Carbon Fiber Resistance System in place of conventional felt drag washers. Carbon fibre drag washers have three performance advantages over felt at high drag pressures:
Higher coefficient of friction: carbon fibre drag washers generate more drag force per unit of spring pressure than felt, allowing higher maximum drag output at the same physical drag stack size and spring load; the Carbon X II delivers 10kg maximum drag in 2000 and 3000 sizes from a compact drag stack
Higher operating temperature: felt washers begin to degrade in drag performance as heat builds from sustained drag engagement; carbon fibre washers tolerate significantly higher temperatures before performance changes, maintaining consistent drag pressure during extended fights with large, fast-running fish
More consistent drag release: felt washers can compress under high pressure settings and stick momentarily before releasing, creating surge in the drag output; carbon fibre washers maintain more even pressure across the full drag range, from light settings for small fish to full 10kg for large species
The reinforced stainless steel main shaft addresses shaft deflection under high drag loads — shaft deflection under load can misalign the drag stack, compressing one side of the drag washers more than the other and creating inconsistent drag pressure; a reinforced shaft maintains straight-line alignment through the drag stack under load.
CNC Hollow Spool
The spool is CNC-machined from aluminium with material removed from the internal spool body where it contributes nothing to structural integrity. The hollow spool has two consequences:
Lower spool mass: a lighter spool has lower rotational inertia; on the cast, less force is required to start the line peeling off the spool; less resistance at the spool rim means lighter lures can pull line more easily, contributing to casting distance particularly with lighter lure weights
Consistent line-to-spool-lip relationship: the CNC machining process produces a spool with precise dimensional tolerances; a correctly dimensioned spool lip ensures the line sits at the correct fill depth relative to the lip, maintaining the clean line exit that maximises casting distance on every cast
Two Gear Ratios — 6.2:1 and 5.2:1
The Carbon X II is available in both a high-speed and a standard-speed retrieve ratio within the same model line:
6.2:1: the faster retrieve; suited to surface lure fishing where fast line recovery is needed between presentations, fast-rolling soft plastics for trevally, and keeping pace with a fish running toward the angler where slow recovery would create slack line and risk losing the hook hold; also suits estuary bream surface lure techniques where a quick rod lift and fast retrieve drives the lure’s walk action
5.2:1: the standard retrieve; suited to slow-rolled swimbaits, bottom-contact soft plastics and deep-diving hard bodies where retrieve torque matters more than retrieve speed; the 5.2:1 produces more mechanical torque per handle revolution than the 6.2:1, making it easier to work resistant lures through the retrieve without hand fatigue
10+1 Double-Sealed Bearings
Ten ball bearings and one roller bearing, all double-sealed against water and contamination ingress. Double seals are particularly relevant for estuary and light saltwater use, where fine salt particles and water can enter the bearing races through single-sealed or unshielded bearings and accelerate corrosive wear on the bearing surfaces.
