The TSURINOYA ARES-A is a metal VIB (vibration blade) lure designed for vertical jigging and lift-drop presentations across a broad range of freshwater and estuary species. Its defining features are a low centre of gravity that produces a stable side-swinging vibration action on the lift, and two line-tie holes that allow the angler to adjust vibration intensity to match conditions. Available in four weights from 5g to 15g and five colour options.
A metal VIB (vibration lure or blade bait) is a flat, fish-shaped metal lure that generates action through its body shape and line attachment point rather than through a lip or propeller. When lifted on a tight line, the flat body rocks side-to-side in a rapid vibrating swing — the same principle as a blade bait, generating strong pressure waves that fish detect through their lateral line. Unlike lipless crankbaits, a metal VIB sinks quickly and can be worked at any depth; unlike lead jigs, the flat profile generates significant horizontal vibration rather than just falling vertically. The ARES-A is designed for the lift-drop technique: cast or drop to the target depth, lift the rod tip to make the lure vibrate on the way up, then lower the tip to let the lure fall freely, repeating the cycle. Most strikes occur on the fall, so maintaining a semi-taut line during the drop is important for detecting bites.
The ARES-A uses a low centre of gravity design — the mass of the lure is concentrated toward the belly (lower edge) of the body. When the lure is lifted on a taut line, this bottom-heavy distribution causes the body to rock with the belly swinging outward (the “abdominal side swing stroke” described in the product features). A higher centre of gravity would cause the lure to swing erratically or tumble; a low centre of gravity locks in a repeatable, consistent side-swing that generates the tight, rapid vibration the VIB action relies on. The streamlined body profile works with the low CoG to maintain stable attitude during the fall — the lure sinks belly-down rather than tumbling sideways, which means it is in the correct orientation the moment the next lift begins.
The ARES-A has two line-tie holes on the back of the lure body, confirmed in the close-up 3D eye image where both holes are visible. Attaching the split ring and snap to the front hole (closer to the head) produces a wider, slower swing arc — lower vibration frequency, more roll. Attaching to the rear hole (closer to the tail) produces a tighter, faster vibration — higher frequency, more blade-like action. This allows the angler to tune the action to conditions: slower vibration on cold or post-frontal days when fish are lethargic, faster vibration when fish are active and chasing. Most metal VIBs offer only a single line-tie; the dual-hole system on the ARES-A provides meaningful on-water flexibility without changing lures.
Confirmed from the spec table image:
Each lure features a 3D simulated eye with a gold iris and dark pupil, confirmed in the close-up image. The eye is recessed into the body surface and catches light at different angles as the lure swings. In clear water, predators target the eye of prey during the attack strike — a convincing 3D eye detail increases strike commitment particularly from bass and perch in clear impoundments.
The product image shows the recommended technique for the ARES-A: “after the lure falls into the water and reaches the target layer, tighten the remaining line and lift the rod tip to make the lure vibrate upstream, then lower the rod tip to let the lure fall freely, and repeat this action until the lure is retrieved and leaves the water surface.” The underwater diagram shows the lure working in a zigzag up-down path, vibrating on each upstroke and freefalling on each downstroke. Key points for the technique:
The spec image confirms target species icons: bass, catfish/silurus, perch, yellowcheek carp, and trout. In Australian fishing contexts, the ARES-A is suited to: Australian bass and estuary perch in impoundments and tidal rivers; golden perch and yellowbelly in dams and rivers; Murray cod over timber and rock structure; trout in highland lakes and tailwaters; bream and flathead from rock walls and jetties; and kingfish and trevally in deeper estuary and offshore contexts on the heavier 10g and 15g sizes.
