The SEASiR Portable Folding Fishing Net is a hand landing net built for anglers who fish on foot. It folds flat in seconds with no tools or installation required and packs into the included waterproof storage bag, making it practical to carry in a backpack, kayak hatch or wading vest. The frame is 301 high-elasticity steel that returns to its open shape immediately after folding. Honeycomb silica gel mesh is fish-friendly, easy to clean, and resists hook snags. Available in S and L sizes.
The SEASiR net uses a pre-tensioned steel frame that folds and deploys with a single hand action — no screws, clips, extension poles or assembly. To fold: hold both ends of the frame, twist in opposite directions, and push toward the centre; the frame collapses into three overlapping loops that pack flat. To open: remove from the bag and release — the 301 high-elasticity steel frame springs open under its own tension to full open shape, ready to use. This is the same figure-8 fold mechanism used on collapsible camping gear; there is a knack to it the first time but it becomes instinctive after two or three attempts.
The frame is made from 301-grade stainless steel, which is a spring-temper austenitic stainless steel selected for its combination of high tensile strength, excellent corrosion resistance and elastic memory. The elastic memory property is what allows the frame to return to its open shape after folding without deformation or progressive weakening — lower-grade steel frames deform and lose their open shape after repeated folding cycles; 301 spring-temper steel maintains its shape through thousands of fold cycles. The stainless grade also resists saltwater corrosion on the frame surface, important for estuary and coastal use where the net contacts salt water on every landing.
The net is made from silica gel mesh with a hexagonal honeycomb cell structure. The honeycomb geometry provides two advantages over standard diamond-pattern nylon mesh: the closed hexagonal cells present fewer sharp angles for hook points to catch on during landing — treble hooks on lures are particularly prone to snagging diamond-pattern mesh at the acute corner of each diamond; the hexagonal cell presents a more rounded profile to the hook point that deflects rather than catches. The silica gel material is fish-friendly — it does not strip the protective slime coat from the fish during landing in the way that rough nylon mesh does, which is relevant if fish are being released. Silica gel mesh also dries faster than nylon and does not retain odour between sessions.
The handle is injection-moulded from ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic in a hollow grip profile. ABS is standard for fishing net handles because it is lightweight, dimensionally stable (does not warp or swell with water exposure), corrosion-proof (unlike metal handles in saltwater), and impact-resistant. The hollow grip profile reduces weight compared to a solid handle of the same outer diameter while maintaining the structural rigidity needed to control a fish in the net. Grip length is 12.5cm on both the S and L sizes.
Each net includes a branded SEASiR storage bag with water-resistant and breathable fabric. The breathable construction allows the wet net to dry inside the bag rather than staying damp and developing odour — a common issue with nets stored in fully waterproof sealed bags. An anti-loss buckle attaches the bag to a belt loop, backpack strap or tackle box handle for hands-free carry on the water.
