Kvantitet

The Kingdom EGI Pro is a dedicated shore-casting squid (eging) rod in four models from 1.95m to 2.58m. Built on a TORAY 40T TORAYCA carbon blank in a distinctive deep purple finish with purple anodised accent trim and Kingdom EGI PRO reel seat. Fuji O-Ring guides throughout. Fast (F) action across all models. All-PE braid line ratings: 0.6–1.5PE. Squid jig ratings: #2–#4 depending on model. Weight: 80–106g. 2-section. The S652ML (1.95m) is a dedicated Tip Run specialist with a 15.5cm titanium tip section.

TORAY 40T TORAYCA Carbon Blank

The EGI Pro blank is built from TORAY 40T carbon fibre — specifically TORAYCA, Toray Industries’ own registered carbon fibre brand. 40T refers to the tensile modulus specification: 40-tonne modulus (40T) places this carbon at the high end of the high-modulus range, above the 24T used on general-purpose lure rods. Higher modulus carbon produces a stiffer, lighter blank at equivalent wall thickness; for an eging rod this matters because the primary techniques — sharp snap casts to position the jig, and the rhythmic rod-tip jigging action used to work the egi through the water column — require the blank to load and unload quickly and crisply without sustained flex or wobble after the movement. A 40T blank recovers from each jig stroke faster than a lower-modulus blank, transmitting the next movement immediately without residual vibration from the previous stroke.

The source image describes the 40T carbon as “high tonnage carbon cloth, effectively inhibiting the shaking and pulling of giant objects” — this refers to the blank’s resistance to the torsional load that a large squid’s water-resistance creates when being wound in at rod tip against the current. A high-modulus blank maintains its tracking direction under sustained torsional load without twisting, keeping the squid on the surface of the jig hooks throughout the retrieve.

Fuji O-Ring Guides — Tangle-Free, Saltwater Resistant

The EGI Pro is fitted with genuine Fuji O-Ring guides throughout, confirmed by the Fuji Guides badge in the product images. The O-Ring is Fuji’s circular single-foot guide frame: the ring geometry minimises the guide frame weight compared to double-foot or K-frame designs at equivalent ring diameter, which is critical for a rod in the 80–106g weight range where every gram of component weight affects tip recovery speed and jig sensitivity. The O-Ring frame is also inherently tangle-resistant — the smooth circular frame profile provides no catching points for line to wrap around during the cast, which is particularly relevant in eging where the angler is repeatedly casting and retrieving a jig on light PE braid that can wrap around guide feet under wind or slack line conditions. Fuji guides are saltwater-resistant by design, with stainless frames and ceramic or SiC ring inserts that do not corrode or degrade in saltwater or spray exposure.

S652ML — Titanium Tip (Tip Run Specialist)

The shortest EGI Pro model, the S652ML at 1.95m, is specifically designed for the Tip Run eging technique and features a 15.5cm titanium tip section. Tip Run is an eging method where the angler delivers a lighter jig to the squid and reads the bite through the movement of the rod tip rather than through line feel — the squid takes the jig and the rod tip dips or deflects; the angler strikes from the tip movement. This requires the rod tip to be extremely sensitive and flexible so that even a gentle take from a cautious squid produces a visible, readable deflection. A 15.5cm titanium tip section replaces the equivalent length of carbon tip on the S652ML: titanium wire is more flexible than carbon fibre at the same tip diameter, allowing the tip to deflect visibly under loads that would produce no readable movement in a solid carbon tip; titanium also has excellent vibration transmission properties, sending touch information from the jig directly through the tip to the blank and to the angler’s hand. The S652ML’s #2–#3.5 jig rating (lighter than the M-power models) is consistent with Tip Run technique which uses lighter jigs to keep the presentation in the upper water column where squid are holding.

Fast Action for Eging

All four EGI Pro models are rated Fast (F) action. In eging, Fast action is the standard choice because eging technique is built around a sequence of crisp upward rod strokes that drive the jig upward, followed by a controlled pause while the jig sinks back in a horizontal flutter that triggers the strike. A Fast action blank loads in the upper third of its length during the snap stroke and then unloads immediately when the stroke stops — the snap is clean, the jig moves with precision, and the rod returns to neutral immediately without continued flex that would pull the jig off its sink path. A softer or moderate action blank would continue to flex after the stroke, pulling the jig out of position during the critical sink phase. Fast action also provides the sharp hook-set sensitivity needed to drive eging hooks — squid jig hooks (egi hooks) are small and multiple; a fast action blanks drives the strike impulse through the length of the rod to the jig immediately.

Purple Blank and EGI Pro Handle

The EGI Pro blank is finished in a deep purple with the “EGI PRO” lettering along the blank and “Designed and Engineered by Kingdom” inscribed on the butt section. The reel seat is black with purple anodised trim rings and the Kingdom and EGI PRO branding on the reel seat body. The fore and rear grips are black EVA foam. The combination of the purple blank, black EVA and purple anodised hardware is a premium and distinctive visual presentation specific to the EGI Pro range.

Squid Jig (EGI) Size and PE Line Guide

Lure weights on the EGI Pro are rated in Japanese EGI (squid jig) size notation rather than grams: #2 is approximately 10g, #3 is approximately 20g, #3.5 is approximately 25g, and #4 is approximately 30g. Line weights are rated in PE class rather than LB: 0.6PE is approximately 5–6LB breaking strain; 1.0PE is approximately 10–12LB; 1.5PE is approximately 14–16LB. All four models share a 0.6–1.5PE line range, giving the angler the flexibility to fish lighter braid for maximum sensitivity in calm, clear conditions or step up within the range for wind, current and larger squid.

Model and Platform Guide

  • S652ML — 1.95m, 80g, Tip Run specialist: the most compact and lightest EGI Pro; the titanium tip and shorter length suit precision presentations from jetties, rock ledges, harbour walls and boat decks where casting distance is secondary to bite detection accuracy; Tip Run technique targeting cautious or finesse squid; the 80g weight makes this the most comfortable model for extended sessions
  • S802M — 2.40m, 97g: the entry-length standard model; suits general shore eging from jetties and breakwalls where moderate casting distance is needed; #2.5–#4 jig range covers the most productive shore eging sizes for Australian squid species
  • S832M — 2.49m, 98g: 9cm longer than the S802M with the same jig and line rating; the marginal extra length adds casting reach from elevated platforms (high rock walls, elevated jetty walkways) where the extra arc length of the cast is the limiting factor for distance; only 1g heavier
  • S862ML — 2.58m, 106g: the longest EGI Pro; beach, open headland and long-range breakwall presentations where maximum casting distance is the priority; returns to ML power and #2–#3.5 jig rating (same as the S652ML) despite the longer blank — the ML power keeps the long-range tip sensitivity intact while the 2.58m length provides the lever for distance casting
