Aantal

The SeaKnight NANO II is an ultralight 4-strand braided PE line built on an ultra-density braid construction with UV-proof and seawater-proof coating. Available in four line classes from 7lb (0.08mm) to 15lb (0.12mm) across 100m and 300m spools in three colours: Hi-Vis Green, Hi-Vis Yellow and Low-Vis Green. Designed for finesse and ultralight lure fishing applications where maximum sensitivity and minimum diameter are the primary requirements.

Why Ultralight Braid — The Case for 7–15lb PE

Choosing braid in the 7–15lb range is not primarily about breaking strength — it is about diameter. At 7lb/0.08mm, the NANO II is finer than most standard braids rated at twice the breaking strength, because the ultra-density 4-strand construction maximises strength per unit of cross-sectional area. The practical effects of a 0.08–0.12mm mainline:

  • Sensitivity: a finer line has lower mass per unit length; lower mass means vibration signals (lure contact with structure, light tap of a soft plastic on the bottom, subtle take from a tentative fish) travel along the line to the rod tip with less damping; at 0.08mm, the NANO II transmits sensory information at a level that 0.20mm+ braids cannot match regardless of the rod
  • Lure action: a thinner mainline creates less drag in the water column on the retrieve; less drag means a light lure (1–5g soft plastic, surface lure, micro-jig) swims at its intended depth and tracks its intended path rather than being pulled toward the surface by the resistance of a heavier mainline
  • Casting distance: finer diameter = less mass through the guides = less friction = longer casting distance with ultralight lures; the difference between 0.08mm and 0.16mm braid on a 3g soft plastic cast is measurable in metres
  • Spool capacity: 100m of 0.08mm braid takes up a fraction of the spool space of equivalent-length heavier braid; a 1000 or 2000 series reel fills to the correct level with 100m of NANO II, whereas the same reel would need backing behind heavier lines to achieve the same fill height

Ultra-Density 4-Strand Construction

The NANO II uses the same ultra-density braid construction as the W4 MANSTER — four fibre bundles braided at a tighter pitch than a standard 4-strand, compressing the fibres into a denser, more circular cross-section. In ultralight line classes where the absolute diameter is already very small, the ultra-density construction is critical: a standard-pitch 4-strand braid at 7lb would have visible gaps between the fibre bundles that create a rough, irregular surface; the ultra-density construction at 0.08mm produces a smooth, consistent surface that passes through fine guide rings without catching.

Dual Coating — UV-Proof and Seawater-Proof

The NANO II carries both UV-proof and seawater-proof coating layers. At ultralight line classes, coating integrity is particularly important because the fibre bundles are thinner and have less inherent protection from environmental degradation than heavier-class fibres:

  • UV-proof coating: blocks ultraviolet radiation before it reaches the UHMWPE fibre; UV degradation of UHMWPE causes progressive molecular chain breakage and fibre brittleness; in a 7lb line where the individual fibre bundles are very fine, UV-induced strength loss is proportionally more significant than in a 40lb line where more fibre is available to compensate
  • Seawater-proof coating: prevents salt ingress between fibre bundles; salt crystal abrasion between fibres is more damaging to fine-diameter braid because the individual fibres have less cross-sectional area to sustain abrasion loss before a fatigue point develops

100m vs 300m Spool

  • 100m spool: the correct fill for most 1000 and 2000 series ultralight spinning reels without backing; also used for top-shotting — spooling 100m of NANO II over a backing of cheaper heavier braid to achieve the correct fill level on a 2500 or 3000 reel while using ultralight mainline only in the top section (the section that actually reaches the fish); top-shotting is the standard technique for running ultralight braid on larger reels without wasting expensive fine braid on backing that will never leave the spool
  • 300m spool: suits direct filling of 1000–2000 reels from a new spool with line to spare for multiple refills; or use as a top-shot spool for multiple reels in the same line class; the 300m option is more economical per metre than the 100m for anglers running multiple ultralight outfits

Colour Selection

  • Hi-Vis Green: high-visibility chartreuse-green tone visible above the water surface; used for finesse presentations where line-watching is the primary bite detection method — watching the mainline for twitches, hesitations and sideways movement that indicate a fish has taken the lure before the angler feels the take; effective for bream and bass on soft plastics fished on a slow sink-and-twitch where visual detection is faster than tactile detection
  • Hi-Vis Yellow: the highest-contrast line-watching colour against grey and green backgrounds; particularly effective in low-light conditions (dawn, dusk, overcast days) where green loses contrast against vegetation and surface glare; for surface lure fishing where watching the line angle change at the water surface is the primary bite detection method
  • Low-Vis Green: low-visibility tone for pressured fish in clear water where the mainline’s visibility from below is a concern; sacrifices line-watching performance in exchange for reduced fish awareness; most commonly used with a fluorocarbon leader in clear water bream and bass situations where fish are heavily pressured; the standard choice when fish refusals are suspected to be line-related rather than presentation-related

Line Class Table

  • 0.08mm / 7lb / 3.2kg
  • 0.09mm / 9lb / 4.1kg
  • 0.10mm / 12lb / 5.4kg
  • 0.12mm / 15lb / 6.8kg

Target Applications

  • Finesse bream: 7–9lb on 1000–2000 series spinning reels with 4–6lb fluorocarbon leader; slow sink soft plastic presentations in clear estuary water; the combination of Hi-Vis mainline for line-watching and fluorocarbon leader for near-invisibility at the terminal end is the standard finesse bream setup
  • Light bass fishing: 9–12lb on 2000–2500 series spinning reels; weedless soft plastics around structure in impoundments; low-vis green braid with 8lb fluorocarbon leader for clear-water situations; the thin diameter allows micro-jigs and small frog lures to work correctly in shallow cover
  • Light estuary species: 12–15lb for whiting, dart and small flathead on light bait and lure rigs from kayak, wading and rock platform; the 15lb/0.12mm class is the transition between ultralight and light spinning and suits anglers who want finesse braid performance without the commitment to 7–9lb
  • Micro-jigging and nano-jigging: 7–9lb for micro metal jigs (1–5g) in clear water scenarios; the thin diameter minimises current drag on the jig and allows it to sink to the target depth and maintain action in the current without being washed wide of the structure
