The SEASiR Black Spider X8 PE Braid is an 8-strand braided fishing line from SEASiR’s P-Series (Professional Series) — the brand’s top-tier line category. 150m spool, ice blue colour, Japanese-sourced material, high-density compression weave, waterproof coating, and a standard line diameter that does not swell after soaking. Available in seven sizes from #0.8 (0.14mm / 16lb / 7.5kg) to #3.0 (0.28mm / 39lb / 17.7kg).

8-Strand Braid — Japan-Imported Material

The Black Spider uses an 8-strand construction with material imported from Japan. 8-strand braids produce a rounder cross-section than 4-strand braids of the same diameter — more strands filling the same diameter means a more circular profile rather than the flattened, square profile of a 4-strand. A rounder line cross-section passes through ceramic guide rings and over the spool lip with less friction, which reduces line noise on the cast and allows the line to shed water more readily on retrieval. The high-density compression weave process compacts the strands together more tightly than standard braiding, which further improves the round profile and reduces the risk of individual strand separation under load.

Strength Specifications

The following table covers the seven line sizes. Diameter figures are nominal.

  • #0.8 — 0.14mm — 16lb / 7.5kg — $33.95
  • #1.0 — 0.16mm — 18lb / 8.2kg — $38.95
  • #1.2 — 0.18mm — 23lb / 10.5kg — $36.95
  • #1.5 — 0.20mm — 26lb / 11.8kg — $36.95
  • #2.0 — 0.23mm — 30lb / 13.6kg — $35.95
  • #2.5 — 0.26mm — 35lb / 15.9kg — $38.95
  • #3.0 — 0.28mm — 39lb / 17.7kg — $35.95

Standard Line Diameter — No Swelling After Water Exposure

The Black Spider is designed to maintain its standard line diameter after soaking, supporting consistent handling over repeated fishing sessions.

This matters practically because some braided lines absorb water and swell between sessions; the individual fibres soften and separate slightly, which increases the effective diameter and causes the line to sit high and stiff on the spool after drying. Swollen braid also leaves a visible water ring on the spool where the wet braid meets air. The Black Spider’s waterproof coating and compression weave are designed to prevent moisture penetration between strands, keeping the diameter consistent between wet and dry states.

Waterproof Coating and Durability

The waterproof coating and compact weave are designed for durability and consistent handling:

  • Wear resistance: designed for fishing around structure where line may contact abrasive surfaces during a retrieve or fight. Inspect the working length after contact with timber, rock or oyster-covered piling, and replace damaged sections.
  • Resistance to sharp bends: designed to maintain its profile as the line passes over guide rings and the reel spool lip under tension.
  • Waterproof coating: helps prevent water from wicking between strands, keeping the line smooth and reducing waterlogging that adds weight and stiffness over a session.

Fast Sinking

The Black Spider is designed to sink quickly after entering the water rather than floating on the surface. Floating braid creates a bow between the rod tip and the lure or sinker, which introduces slack into the system and delays strike detection — a floating line bow means the angler must take up the bow before any movement is transmitted to the lure, reducing sensitivity and strike response. A sinking braid maintains a direct line path from rod tip to lure and improves feel for bottom contact, light bites, and current variation. The fast-sinking behaviour is a result of the line density and the waterproof coating reducing surface tension that would otherwise cause the braid to float.

Casting Distance

The high-smoothness finish and round 8-strand cross-section reduce resistance through the guides on the cast. Lower guide friction allows more energy from the rod blank to transfer to the running line rather than being absorbed as heat at the guide ring surface, producing longer casts from the same rod load. The consistent diameter also prevents the line from digging into the lower spool layers on heavy casts, which can create a sudden resistance spike mid-cast that costs distance.

Size Selection Guide

  • #0.8–1.0 (16–18lb): light braid for finesse lure fishing, estuary spinning, bream and whiting on light spinning gear; thin diameter maximises spool capacity and casting distance on light rods rated to 6–10lb
  • #1.2–1.5 (23–26lb): versatile mid-weight braid for flathead, bass and snapper on medium spinning and casting gear; balanced between sensitivity and strength for general lure and bait fishing
  • #2.0–2.5 (30–35lb): heavier braid for larger species, heavier lures, and fishing in structured environments where abrasion resistance is important; barramundi, large snapper and kingfish on medium-heavy gear
  • #3.0 (39lb): heavy braid for rock and surf fishing, live bait, large pelagics and bottom fishing where maximum strength is prioritised
