Quantità

The SEASIR Expert is a spinning reel in four sizes (1500S to 4000S) with an extended shallow spool design for long-distance casting, IPX6 waterproofing, a one-piece metal power handle, 10+1 stainless bearings, multi-layer wool drag and a zinc alloy main gear paired with a machined brass pinion. Drag: 6kg (1500S), 12kg (2500S) and 16kg (3000S and 4000S). Weight: 170–272g. Gear ratio: 5.2:1 across all sizes. No external anti-reverse switch. Freshwater and saltwater.

Extended Shallow Spool — Ultra-Long Casting

The Expert’s spool is shallower than a conventional spool and features an extended upper lip section. These two design choices combine to reduce the friction that limits casting distance in a standard spool:

  • Shallow fill depth: in a conventional spool, line fills to a depth below the spool lip; as line peels off the spool during the cast, it must travel up and over the spool lip edge; the angle between the departing line and the spool lip creates friction at that edge contact point; a shallower spool brings the line fill level closer to the spool lip, making the line’s exit angle closer to vertical — approaching a straight exit rather than an angled one; the closer to vertical the exit angle, the lower the friction at the lip edge and the less resistance the departing line encounters at that point
  • Extended upper lip: the upper spool lip section extends further above the line fill level than a standard spool; the extended lip acts as a guide for the initial burst of line off the spool immediately after the cast impulse; the line flows over the extended lip smoothly rather than peeling immediately off the spool rim without guidance; this reduces the tendency for the line to bunch or create friction against the spool face in the first phase of the cast, where line velocity is highest

The practical result: longer casting distance at equivalent lure weight compared to a standard spool, and smoother line feel through the cast as friction is reduced throughout the line’s exit path.

IPX6 Waterproofing

The Expert carries an IPX6 waterproof rating — protection against powerful water jets from any direction. IPX6 exceeds IPX4 (splash resistance) and IPX5 (low-pressure water jets) and is sufficient for rock fishing spray, surf casting wave wash and direct boat deck spray. The Expert achieves IPX6 through two design choices:

  • No external anti-reverse switch: most spinning reels have an anti-reverse switch on the outer housing that can be toggled on and off; this switch requires a housing penetration point for its mechanism; eliminating the switch removes that penetration point from the waterproof barrier; the Expert’s anti-reverse is permanently engaged internally without a switch, which simplifies the housing, reduces the number of sealing surfaces required and removes one potential failure point for water ingress
  • Multiple internal sealing rings: sealing rings are placed at the remaining housing penetration points — the main shaft, rotor bearing and spool seat — to prevent water entry through the mechanical interfaces between moving and static housing components

One-Piece Metal Power Handle

A split (two-piece) rocker arm handle has a join point between the arm and the grip knob; under retrieve load, particularly against a fish on a tight drag, mechanical play develops at the join and absorbs a small portion of the retrieve force before it reaches the reel’s gear train. The Expert’s one-piece handle eliminates the join entirely: the rocker arm and metal grip knob are a single machined component with no mechanical play. Power transfers directly from the angler’s hand through the arm to the gear train. At the 12–16kg drag ratings of the 2500S, 3000S and 4000S, where the angler is working against significant resistance on a large fish, the direct power transmission of a one-piece handle is a meaningful advantage over a split-handle equivalent.

Gear Train — Zinc Alloy Main Gear and Machined Brass Pinion

The Expert’s gear pair uses different materials and manufacturing processes for each component, matched to their respective loads:

  • Main gear — zinc alloy die-cast: the main gear is large, rotates at low RPM relative to the handle, and takes the torque loads of the drag system; zinc alloy provides good corrosion resistance and adequate strength for the main gear’s load conditions; die-casting is the appropriate manufacturing process for a large gear where the dimensional tolerances required are achievable by casting
  • Pinion gear — solid brass, machined from bar: the pinion is small, rotates at higher RPM than the main gear (it is driven by the main gear and drives the rotor), and takes the highest-velocity contact loads in the gear train; a machined brass pinion achieves tighter dimensional tolerances than a die-cast equivalent, producing a more precise gear mesh with the main gear; brass has higher resistance to wear and deformation at the contact points of fast-spinning gear mesh than zinc alloy; machining from solid bar (rather than die-casting) preserves the material’s grain structure at the tooth surfaces, which adds fatigue resistance at the most loaded point of the pinion tooth

10+1 Stainless Bearings

Ten stainless steel ball bearings and one roller bearing support the reel’s rotating components. Stainless bearings resist corrosion in saltwater and brackish estuary environments where standard steel bearings would rust and seize. Long service life, high precision and reduced noise under load are stated performance characteristics. The 10+1 bearing count at this price point ensures bearing support at the main shaft, pinion shaft, rotor, spool and handle positions, with no major rotating surface running directly on a brass or nylon bush.

Reinforced Nylon Body with Electroplating

The rotor and body are built from reinforced nylon — nylon with glass or carbon fibre reinforcement that achieves higher stiffness and dimensional stability under load than unfilled nylon. The reinforced nylon rotor is lighter than an equivalent aluminium rotor, which reduces the rotor’s rotational inertia and allows the reel to start and stop the retrieve more quickly in response to the angler’s input. The external electroplating process applies a metal layer to the nylon body’s outer surface; the metal layer provides the metallic visual finish and surface hardness associated with a metal body without adding the full weight of a metal-body reel.

Multi-Layer Wool Drag

The drag stack uses multiple layers of wool felt washers. Multi-layer stacks distribute the drag load across more friction surface than a single-washer system, allowing the total drag force to be spread across more material; this reduces peak temperature per washer and maintains consistent drag pressure across the full drag range, from the 1500S’s 6kg to the 3000S and 4000S’s 16kg maximum. Wool felt drag washers produce smooth drag engagement without the stick-slip behaviour that can occur with lower-quality washer materials.

After-Use Care

After saltwater use, rinse the reel with fresh water — do not use high-pressure water — and allow it to dry before storage. The bearing assemblies can accumulate salt residue if not rinsed, which reduces bearing smoothness over time. Occasional light lubrication of the main shaft and drag washers with reel-appropriate lubricant maintains performance across seasons.
