Quantità

The SeaKnight SLARDAR C3000S is a sea fishing spinning reel with a carbon fibre body at 228g, 9+1 shielded bearings, 8kg drag, a 5.2:1 gear ratio, a double handle with large EVA knobs, a shallow spool and an aurora electroplating outer coating. Designed for rock, beach and boat fishing in saltwater. PE line capacity: PE #0.6/200m, PE #0.8/150m, PE #1.0/120m. Ambidextrous.

Carbon Fibre Body

The SLARDAR C3000S body is carbon fibre, which at the C3000 reel class produces a 228g reel with 8kg drag — a weight-to-drag ratio that aluminium and graphite body constructions at equivalent size do not match. Carbon fibre’s high stiffness-to-weight ratio allows the body to maintain dimensional rigidity under the forces of a fish pulling against 8kg of drag — bearing seat alignment and gear mesh geometry are preserved under load — at a body mass lower than a structurally equivalent aluminium alloy construction would require.

Aurora Electroplating Coating

The SLARDAR’s outer surfaces carry an aurora electroplating finish — an iridescent, colour-shifting surface applied by electrochemical deposition. Beyond the visual effect (the colour shifts with viewing angle, producing a metallic iridescence), the electroplated layer serves two practical functions on a sea fishing reel:

  • Abrasion resistance: the electroplated hard surface layer protects the carbon fibre body from surface abrasion at contact points — rock platforms, gunwales, tackle boxes and rod holders all represent impact and abrasion risks to the reel body in sea fishing environments; the plated layer absorbs surface wear that would otherwise reach the carbon fibre substrate
  • Corrosion resistance: electroplated coatings seal the body surface against saltwater penetration; salt crystal deposition and the electrochemical corrosion it accelerates are the primary mechanisms of reel body degradation in sea fishing; the aurora coat provides a sealed barrier between the body material and the marine environment

Shallow Spool Design — Casting Distance

The “S” in C3000S designates a shallow spool — the spool body is shallower than a standard C3000 spool, holding less total line at each line class. For a reel filled with PE braid, the shallow spool has three practical consequences:

  • Less braid required for full spool: a shallow spool reaches the correct fill level (line at or near the spool lip) with less total line than a standard-depth spool; for PE #0.8 braid, the C3000S requires 150m to fill correctly rather than 200m+ on a standard-depth spool; lower line cost per fill and no requirement for monofilament backing
  • Improved casting distance: line exits a spinning reel spool from the spool lip; when the spool is correctly filled to the lip, line coils fly off cleanly and symmetrically on the cast; an underfilled spool creates tighter, smaller coils that catch on the spool lip and increase friction, reducing casting distance; the shallow spool maintains correct fill at 150–200m of braid rather than requiring a deeper fill, ensuring the line exits cleanly at the start of the cast
  • Faster retrieve per turn at maximum efficiency: the retrieve rate of a spinning reel is determined by the spool’s effective diameter at the point where line is recovered; a correctly filled spool recovers line at the maximum rate; a shallow spool reaches full efficiency with less line, so the retrieve rate is at maximum from the first handle turns of the retrieve

Double Handle — Large EVA Knobs

The SLARDAR uses a double handle — two handle arms, one on each side of the rotor, each fitted with a large EVA foam knob. Double handles are a sea fishing design feature with specific advantages over single-arm handles in heavy fishing applications:

  • Balanced retrieve: a double handle distributes the retrieve force symmetrically across both sides of the rotor; a single handle arm applies the retrieve force asymmetrically, creating a slight wobble in the rotor rotation under high load; at 8kg drag pressure, this asymmetry is more pronounced; the double handle maintains balanced rotor rotation and a more consistent retrieve feel under load
  • Reduced handle flex: a single handle arm is a cantilevered beam under retrieve load; at high drag settings, a long single arm can flex noticeably, which is felt as handle give at the knob; double handles reduce the effective cantilever length at each arm and distribute the load between two arms, reducing flex under load
  • EVA knobs: large EVA foam knobs provide a secure grip surface when the hand is wet from spray, bait and fish; EVA’s surface texture is maintained when wet; large knob diameter reduces the grip pressure required to turn the handle under load, which reduces forearm fatigue over an extended session at the beach or rock platform

5.2:1 Gear Ratio

The SLARDAR’s 5.2:1 gear ratio is lower than the 6.2:1 common in estuary spinning reels and is the correct choice for sea fishing applications. At 5.2:1, each handle revolution recovers less line than at 6.2:1 but applies more mechanical torque to the line. In sea fishing, where the reel is used to retrieve against strong current, fight large fish at high drag settings and work heavy sinkers and lures, retrieve torque is more important than retrieve speed. The lower ratio delivers a stronger, more controlled retrieve under load where a higher-ratio reel would feel laboured and require more handle effort per turn to move the same load.

9+1 Bearings

Nine ball bearings and one roller bearing support the SLARDAR’s rotating components. At a 228g reel weight with 8kg drag, the bearing system ensures smooth rotation under the combined loads of retrieve and drag pressure that sea fishing generates. All bearings are shielded against saltwater entry.

Line and Reel Pairing Guide

  • Rock fishing (snapper, luderick, bream): PE #0.8/150m + 16–20lb fluorocarbon leader; 5–8kg drag setting; suits medium-action rods of 9–10ft; the SLARDAR’s 8kg maximum drag provides headroom for large snapper on moderate drag settings
  • Beach fishing (whiting, dart, tailor): PE #0.6/200m + 10–15lb fluorocarbon leader; lower drag settings; the shallow spool’s clean line release at PE #0.6 suits distance casting from beach, maximising reach for tailor and dart in the gutters
  • Boat fishing (snapper, flathead, light inshore): PE #0.8–1.0 + 16–20lb leader; full 8kg drag capacity available for snapper and light pelagics; pairs with 7–8ft medium-power rods for mixed bottom and lure fishing

The SLARDAR C3000S is a natural pairing with the SeaKnight X9 9-Strand Braid from the Cast N Go range — the X9’s 33–45lb Low-Vis Green 300m or 500m suits this reel’s line capacity and sea fishing applications directly.
