SeaKnight BLADE Nylon Monofilament Line – Japan Material | 1000m | 6–35lb | Black White Blue

The SeaKnight BLADE is a nylon monofilament fishing line made from Japan-sourced nylon polymer. Available in 1000m spools in Black, White and Blue across line classes from 1.0# (6lb / 0.16mm) to 8.0# (35lb / 0.50mm). Suited to freshwater and saltwater spinning and overhead reel applications from light estuary fishing through to heavier surf and reef bait fishing.

Japan Material Nylon

The BLADE is labelled “Japan Material” — the nylon polymer is sourced from Japan rather than from domestic Chinese-produced nylon. In the fishing line market, Japanese-sourced nylon polymer (from manufacturers such as Toray) is produced to tighter molecular consistency standards than standard-grade nylon, which has two practical effects on the finished line:

• Diameter consistency: tighter-spec nylon polymer produces a finished line with less diameter variation along its length; a line that maintains consistent diameter across 1000m has more consistent breaking strength along the spool and ties knots more uniformly
• Strength-to-diameter ratio: higher-grade nylon achieves the rated breaking strength at a smaller diameter than lower-grade nylon; a finer line at equivalent strength is less visible underwater and has lower water resistance, which improves casting distance and sink rate

Nylon Monofilament Properties

Nylon monofilament (mono) is the original fishing line material and remains widely used for specific applications where its properties are an advantage over braid and fluorocarbon:

• Stretch: nylon mono has significant stretch — typically 25–30% elongation before breaking; this stretch acts as a shock absorber during the initial strike, sudden runs and head shakes, reducing the likelihood of the hook pulling or the line breaking on an aggressive take; for bait fishing with exposed J-hooks where the fish has time to mouth and move, the stretch gives a margin before the hook load becomes critical
• Floating: nylon is slightly less dense than water and floats; this makes mono suitable for surface presentations (floating live baits, topwater rigs) and for surf fishing where a floating mainline stays on the surface through the wave zone rather than dragging on the bottom
• Knot performance: nylon’s surface and stretch properties make it one of the most forgiving materials for standard fishing knots; the Uni knot, Improved Clinch, Palomar and blood knot all perform reliably in nylon with correct execution
• Line memory: nylon mono retains the coil shape of the spool it is wound on, particularly in cold water; fresh line from a new spool will show coiling at the start of the session that reduces as the line absorbs water and warms; this is a characteristic of nylon rather than a defect and is managed by stretching the line before the first cast or by soaking the spool in warm water for 10 minutes before spooling
• UV degradation: nylon degrades with prolonged UV exposure and loses breaking strength over time; a 1000m spool used over multiple sessions should be checked periodically for surface texture change (rough, chalky or flaking surfaces indicate UV degradation) and replaced seasonally for critical applications

1000m Spool — Bulk Value and Backing

The BLADE is supplied in 1000m spools. A 1000m spool serves two uses: it can fill two or more reels from a single spool at a lower cost per metre than a standard 150–300m retail spool; or the full 1000m can be used as backing and mainline on a larger overhead or surf reel that requires high line capacity. For spinning reels in the 2500–4000 class, 1000m of 6–12lb mono will overfill the reel — fill from the spool to within 2–3mm of the lip and retain the remaining line for the next refill when the top section wears.

Colour Selection

• Black — low-visibility in dark and tannin-stained water (rivers, estuaries, deep reef); the most neutral colour for fish visibility in mixed lighting conditions
• White — low-visibility in clear offshore and coastal water where the background is sky and surface light; used by snapper and reef fishers in clear conditions
• Blue — designed to blend with blue-tinted oceanic water; used for offshore bait fishing and trolling where the water column is deep blue
