The SeaKnight SPIDERPRO X8 is an 8-strand braided PE line with SeaKnight’s Ultra Density Braid (UDB) construction and Si+ two-layer coating system. Ultra Density Braid (UDB) — 8-Strand Construction

The SPIDERPRO X8 uses SeaKnight’s UDB (Ultra Density Braid) construction — 8 fibre bundles braided at a tighter pitch than a standard 8-strand, compressing the fibres into the densest possible circular cross-section. The effect of 8-strand UDB on the finished line:

• Super-thin diameter: the ultra-density 8-strand construction achieves the rated breaking strength at a finer nominal diameter than either a standard 4-strand or a standard 8-strand; at 0.12mm the X8 is rated 15lb; a standard 4-strand braid rated 15lb typically runs at 0.14–0.16mm; the diameter difference is the direct result of more fibre bundles packed into a smaller cross-sectional area more efficiently
• Rounder cross-section: 8 bundles in a tight braid approach a true cylinder more closely than 4 bundles at equivalent diameter; a rounder cross-section contacts guide rings consistently on the cast, reducing friction and improving casting distance; for a 100m spool used as a top-shot where casting distance is the primary factor, guide friction reduction at the line surface level is the marginal gain that adds up over a session
• Smoother surface: tighter pitch between bundles leaves fewer surface gaps; the Si+ coating fills the remaining micro-gaps, producing a smooth, consistent outer surface that passes through guides with less resistance and less audible noise than a standard-pitch 4-strand braid of equivalent diameter

Si+ Two-Layer Coating System

The SPIDERPRO X8 uses the same Si+ (silicon resin) two-layer coating system found on the SeaKnight W4 MANSTER braid — two coating layers applied in sequence, each serving a distinct function:

• Si+ silicon resin layer: hydrophobic silicon resin fills the inter-fibre gaps at the braid surface, repelling saltwater ingress; silicon resin also has higher thermal conductivity than standard polymer coatings, dissipating friction heat from guide contact faster; for an 8-strand braid used in long-session casting (popping, jigging, beach fishing), this prevents the progressive roughening of the coating surface that occurs when peak guide friction temperatures exceed the coating’s thermal tolerance
• UV-proof outer layer: UV-blocking agents in the outer coating absorb ultraviolet radiation before it reaches the UHMWPE fibre; UV degradation reduces tensile strength in UHMWPE over a season of outdoor use; the UV coat also locks the dye colour into the fibre, preventing fading across repeated saltwater sessions

Water-Based Dyeing (Patented)

The SPIDERPRO X8 uses SeaKnight’s patented water-based dye process, which bonds dye to the UHMWPE fibre at a molecular level rather than depositing it as a surface coat. The practical result: colour that maintains integrity across repeated saltwater immersion rather than washing out over the first few sessions. This is particularly relevant to the Hi-Vis Yellow and Red variants, where colour brightness directly determines the line’s usefulness for line-watching.

Colour Selection — Four Tactical Applications

• Hi-Vis Yellow: high-contrast colour for line-watching presentations; suited to surface lure fishing (poppers, stickbaits, walk-the-dog lures) where the angler watches the mainline angle change at the water surface for bite detection; also suited to squid fishing (eging) where visual detection of the line hesitating during the egi’s sink is faster than tactile detection; the most visible colour in low-light conditions at dawn and dusk when contrast against a dark water surface is maximum
• Red: red light wavelengths are absorbed rapidly as depth increases in the water column; at approximately 5m depth, red braid appears dark grey or black to a fish looking up through the water column; red braid is used in boat fishing and jigging applications where the angler wants a high-visibility colour above the water for line management and bite detection, but reduced visibility at depth where the fish are; effective compromise between line-watching visibility and below-surface low-visibility
• Multi-Colour (10m sections): the multi-colour spool uses alternating colours at 10m intervals across the 100m length; each colour change marks 10m of line out from the reel, allowing the angler to count sections as line is stripped off the spool to determine lure or jig depth without a line counter; particularly useful in vertical jigging, soft plastic deep-water fishing and when dropping baits to a specific depth on a sounder reading; the 100m length provides 10 distinct 10m sections
• Low-Vis Green: low-visibility tone for pressured fish in clear coastal water; sacrifices line-watching performance for reduced below-surface visibility; use with a fluorocarbon leader of 1–2m at the terminal end; suited to snapper, kingfish and reef species in clear water situations where fish are leader and mainline aware

100m Spool — Top-Shot and Single Reel Fill

• Top-shot: 100m of SPIDERPRO X8 over a backing of heavier monofilament or cheaper braid provides 8-strand braid performance in the working section (the top 50–100m that actually reaches the fish) without the cost of filling the entire reel; for spinning reels in the 3000–5000 class used for popping, jigging and coastal fishing where 100m of working section is adequate, the 100m spool is the correct quantity
• Direct fill for light spinning reels: 1000–2000 class spinning reels used for finesse fishing hold 100–150m of fine braid; 100m of 15–22lb X8 fills a 1000 or 1500 class reel directly without backing at the lighter line classes; at 0.12–0.16mm, the X8 fits the spool capacity of the smallest ultralight spinning reels
