Quantité

The PURELURE REFLEX ARC is a purpose-built micro finesse flick casting rod, co-developed with veteran flick cast angler Wu Mingdong over multiple design iterations. Built on a tri-material blank of Toray T300+T1100G+M46X with Fuji SIC ring guides, a full cork reel seat handle and PURELURE’s Crest-Tip blank technology. Capable of casting lures as light as 0.5g with a normal cast and 0.8g with a flick cast. Available in four configurations from 6…1’’ to 6…7’’ in spinning (3 variants) and casting (1 variant). Line class: 1–6lb (PE #0.2–0.6). Top diameter: 1.3mm.

What is Flick Casting?

Flick casting is a micro-finesse technique that uses a short, sharp sideways or pendulum rod-tip movement — a “flick” — to load the blank and propel extremely light lures at low trajectory with high accuracy. Instead of the overhead arc of a conventional cast, the lure travels on a flat, low path that passes under docks, overhanging vegetation, bridge structures and tight cover that an overhead cast cannot reach. The technique originated in Japanese trout and managed fishery fishing and is now widely used for bass, estuary perch and bream in estuary environments with dense structure — mangroves, pylons, fallen timber and urban waterways.

The technique’s critical challenge: a conventional finesse rod loads from the butt section forward to a flex point; with very light lures (0.5–3g), there is insufficient lure weight to load the blank deeply enough through a conventional casting stroke to generate meaningful tip propulsion; the lure arrives at the tip before the blank has stored enough energy in the stroke. Flick casting solves this by using the blank’s mid-section as the primary loading zone, storing energy there and releasing it as a propagating wave through the tip; the angler drives the mid-section load through a sharp wrist movement rather than relying on the lure’s weight to load the blank through a long stroke.

REFLEX ARC Principle — Crest-Tip Technology

The REFLEX ARC blank is specifically tuned for this mid-section loading principle — not simply a light or ultra-light rod, but a rod whose flex profile is engineered to make flick casting more effective than it is on any conventional rod:

  • Conventional micro finesse rod behaviour: the blank’s load point sits too far back from the tip; the tip’s elasticity is not fully engaged during the flick; light lures cannot generate enough momentum to utilise the tip’s stored energy efficiently; casting distance and trajectory consistency suffer
  • REFLEX ARC blank tuning: the mid-section (butt-to-mid junction) is the primary loading zone; when the angler applies the flick, energy loads into this zone and propagates as a wave through the blank toward the tip; the wave’s peak — the “crest” — arrives at the tip section at the precise moment to propel the lure; the blank recovers quickly after the flick, damping oscillation so the angler can control lure placement immediately after the cast
  • Crest-Tip technology: developed by PURELURE engineers using HX-CARBON multi-axis construction principles, the Crest-Tip section controls where and how the energy wave crests at the tip; the result is that even 0.5–0.8g lures — too light to load a conventional blank at all — can be propelled accurately at low trajectory by utilising the wave energy rather than lure mass to drive the cast

T300 + T1100G + M46X — Tri-Material Carbon Blank

The REFLEX ARC blank uses three Toray carbon materials, each contributing a distinct property to the blank’s overall performance profile:

  • T300 (standard modulus): Toray’s T300 is a standard-tensile-modulus carbon with high toughness and excellent elastic recovery; toughness in a carbon fibre blank is the ability to absorb sudden impact loads without fracture — relevant when flick casting into tight structure where the blank contacts obstacles; high elastic recovery is the spring-back speed after loading and release; T300 provides the “live” feel and quick recovery that makes a flick casting rod respond to the wrist flick without oscillating slowly after release
  • T1100G (ultra-high-strength, ultra-high-modulus): the same Toray ultra-high-performance carbon used in the Amaro Pro (~65 ton/mm² tensile modulus); provides stiffness and vibration transmission at the fine tip diameters needed for 0.5g lure sensitivity; at 1.3mm top diameter, the tip section must be stiff enough to transmit the light touch of a micro lure’s action and tentative bite without being so flexible it loses its response to the flick casting stroke
  • M46X (high-modulus, high-torsional-stiffness): Toray’s M46 series carbon (~45 ton/mm²) is specifically valued for its torsional stiffness — resistance to twist — as well as its axial modulus; flick casting uses a lateral wrist movement rather than an axial one; a blank with low torsional stiffness would twist under the lateral flick force, absorbing energy that should be directed to the lure and reducing directional accuracy; M46X provides the torsional rigidity that makes the REFLEX ARC track a precise arc during the flick, directing energy consistently into the cast plane rather than losing it to blank twist

Full Fuji SIC Ring Guides

The REFLEX ARC uses a full set of Fuji guides with SiC (silicon carbide) ring inserts — the hardest Fuji insert material, harder than Alconite and aluminium oxide. SiC’s hardness is specifically critical at the fine line classes used for micro lure flick casting:

  • At 2–4lb fluorocarbon or PE #0.2–0.4, the line is fine enough that even micro-surface irregularities in a guide ring — hairline grooves cut by repeated high-speed line contact — can damage the line at the groove edge; SiC’s extreme hardness prevents groove formation entirely
  • The guide ring layout is non-micro (larger aperture than the micro-guide systems common on ultralight rods); a larger aperture is specifically chosen for smooth line release during the flick cast, where line leaves the spool in a compact coil and needs a clear, wide path through each ring without friction contact at the ring edges

Full Cork Reel Seat Handle

The REFLEX ARC uses a full cork reel seat — the reel foot sits directly in a cork-body reel seat rather than a conventional aluminium, graphite or composite reel seat body. This is the most direct possible vibration path from the blank to the angler’s hand:

  • In a standard reel seat, the reel foot sits in a metal or composite housing that sits on the blank; vibration from the blank passes through the housing material before reaching the grip; a cork reel seat eliminates the intermediate material, transmitting blank vibration directly through cork — which is dense enough to conduct vibration but not so rigid that it reflects it back into the blank
  • Cork is lighter than aluminium reel seat bodies at the same dimensions, contributing to the REFLEX ARC’s lightweight balance; with near-one-piece construction (the 2-piece joint is designed to flex as continuously as possible through the joint), the full cork handle provides structural grip continuity from the butt to the reel position

Co-Development with Wu Mingdong

The REFLEX ARC series was co-developed with Wu Mingdong, a specialist flick casting angler with over 10 years of competitive and recreational flick casting experience. The co-development process involved multiple blank design iterations tested in actual flick casting conditions, specifically to tune the mid-section loading behaviour, tip crest timing and blank recovery speed for the technique. The RA-612S-MF model — the shortest spinning variant — was specifically described by the development team as the most user-friendly configuration for anglers new to flick casting, with its 6…1’’ length and moderate-fast action making the technique accessible without the demands of longer blanks.

Variant Guide

  • RA-612S-MF: 6…1’’ | Spinning | Moderate Fast | 0.5g min (normal), 0.8g min (flick) — the most user-friendly configuration; specifically designed for anglers learning flick casting; suited to fishing under bridges, docks, structure and in obstacle-strewn streams; the shortest blank is easiest to control in confined spaces; suitable for bream, small bass and estuary perch in tight estuary cover
  • RA-642S-MF: 6…4’’ | Spinning | Moderate Fast | 0.5–7g — designed for open small rivers and streams; greater length provides more elasticity and casting reach for wider water bodies; suited to stream fishing for Australian bass, estuary perch and trout in managed fisheries and natural streams
  • RA-672S-MF: 6…7’’ | Spinning | Moderate Fast | up to 7g — for wide streams and pond-style managed fisheries where casting distance is the priority; the longest spinning configuration provides maximum casting reach; the 7g upper lure limit on this model demonstrates the blank’s elastic power at full length; the longest blank also provides the most backbone for fighting fish in open water without surrounding structure limiting rod angle
  • RA-622C-MF: 6…2’’ | Casting (baitcasting) | Moderate Fast — the flick cast baitcasting variant; suited to anglers running a BFS baitcasting reel (such as the PURELURE ZANA) for managed fisheries and wide-stream flick casting; baitcasting allows finer line and lure placement control with a trained thumb brake; 6…2’’ length suits both confined and open environments
