The Stainless Wire Bait Clip

The stainless steel wire clip is mounted on the jig body and allows a small piece of real prawn, shrimp or other natural bait to be fixed to the lure. This combination — artificial lure body plus real bait — adds a scent and texture trigger to the visual and luminous triggers already present on the jig. Squid are visual predators but also respond to scent and touch when investigating prey; a jig that delivers both artificial visual triggers and real bait scent at the same time can produce significantly better results in conditions where squid are being selective or where the water is turbid enough to reduce the effectiveness of purely visual triggers. Night fishing is the primary application — in darkness, squid rely more heavily on scent and luminous visual triggers than on the detailed colour patterns of the jig body.
