Why a Triangle Head

A standard round or bullet jig head rolls on its axis during the retrieve and produces a consistent, predictable swimming action. A triangular lead head changes this in two ways:

• Dart action on the drop — the triangular cross-section is aerodynamically unstable; on a vertical or semi-vertical drop, the head yaws and darts unpredictably rather than falling straight; this erratic, injured-baitfish drop action triggers reaction strikes from bass, bream and flathead that would ignore a straight-falling round head
• Horizontal stability on the pause — the flat face of the triangle acts as a keel when the lure is stationary or falling horizontally on the retrieve; the head settles into a horizontal, nose-down position that presents the soft plastic body in a natural, horizontal baitfish profile; this stable pause position contrasts with the erratic dart on the drop, creating an action cycle (dart — pause — dart) that mirrors the movement of a disoriented baitfish

The triangular shape also deflects off rocks, timber and hard bottom structure differently from a round head. A round head tends to roll into gaps and snag; a triangular head’s flat faces contact structure at an angle and deflect off cleanly, making it more effective in rocky and snag-heavy environments.

90-Degree Line Tie

The line tie eye is angled at 90 degrees to the hook shank — perpendicular to the hook rather than in-line with it. This geometry has two effects:

• Horizontal profile — when the jig is fished vertically (dropped straight down or lifted and dropped in a drop-shot or vertical jigging presentation), the 90-degree tie holds the hook and soft plastic in a horizontal position rather than nose-up or nose-down; a horizontal profile is the natural resting orientation of a small baitfish and triggers fewer refusals from cautious fish inspecting the lure before striking
• Direct hookset transmission — on a vertical hookset, the 90-degree tie aligns the line pull direction with the upward strike force more efficiently than an in-line tie; the line pull is transmitted directly through the eye to the hook point without requiring the head to rotate before the point loads

Texas Rig Compatibility

The triangle jig head is compatible with Texas rig soft plastic presentations. In a Texas rig configuration, the hook point is re-inserted into the body of the soft plastic after the initial threading, creating a weedless presentation where the hook point is buried in the lure body and only exposed on a fish’s strike. The 9KM triangle head’s shank design and hook geometry allow the hook point to be tex-posed (buried in the soft plastic for weedless fishing) while still setting cleanly on the strike. This makes the triangle head effective in the thick grass, lily pad and submerged timber environments where Texas rigging is most productive for Australian bass and golden perch.

Weedless Shank

The hook shank is designed to allow soft plastics to be rigged so the hook point is protected during the retrieve. In snag-heavy environments — fallen timber, rock ledges, weed edges — a standard exposed-hook jig head will snag constantly; the weedless shank allows the same jig head to be worked through structure that would otherwise be unfishable. The hook point deploys and sets cleanly on a fish’s strike despite the weedless configuration.

2X High Carbon Steel Hook

The hook is constructed from high carbon steel wire at 2X (double-strength) gauge. 2X construction uses heavier wire than a standard hook of the same size, providing greater resistance to bending or straightening under the load of a large bass or flathead. High carbon steel holds a sharper point than mild steel and retains that point longer through contact with hard substrate. The hook point is barbed for secure holding.

• 7g — ultralight; shallow water (0.5–2m), slow sink for presentations over weed flats and shallow rock; finesse bream on light soft plastics in estuaries and harbours on PE #0.4–#0.8; also suited to drop-shot vertical presentations in calm conditions where slow fall rate is needed to keep the lure in the strike zone
