How the Limited Edition Differs from the Standard REFLEX ARC

Torzite Rings in Titanium Frames

Torzite is Fuji’s most advanced guide ring insert material, developed in collaboration with Toray and positioned above SiC at the top of Fuji’s ring range. The upgrade from SiC (standard REFLEX ARC) to Torzite (Limited Edition) has two specific engineering consequences:

• Weight reduction: Torzite achieves equivalent hardness to SiC at a lower mass per ring than SiC; for a 4.9ft compact rod where guides are positioned close to the tip section, guide ring mass is a proportionally larger contributor to tip weight than on a full-length rod; lighter rings maintain the rod’s intended balance point and prevent tip-heaviness that would make the precise, short-arc wrist movement of flick casting fatiguing over an extended session
• Surface finish: Torzite’s manufacturing process produces a smoother ring surface at the microscopic level than SiC; for the fine line classes of flick casting (PE #0.2–0.4), the guide ring surface is the primary friction source during line release; a smoother ring surface reduces this friction below what SiC achieves, allowing lighter lures to pull line through the guides more easily on the cast stroke — critical for 0.6–1g presentations where the lure’s momentum is minimal

The titanium guide frames (Ti) are significantly lighter than the stainless steel frames on the standard REFLEX ARC. Titanium’s strength-to-weight ratio allows frames to be built to the same structural rigidity as stainless at approximately 40% of the mass. On a 4.9ft rod, the cumulative mass of 6–8 guide frames is a meaningful proportion of the total rod weight; titanium frames reduce this contribution to the minimum consistent with frame integrity under the casting loads of flick casting.

Solid Wood Reel Seat

The Limited Edition uses a solid wood reel seat in place of the standard REFLEX ARC’s full cork seat. Solid wood reel seats are rare in production rods — they are more commonly found in custom and boutique Japanese micro-fishing rods. The wood seat has three specific properties:

• Vibration character: solid wood is denser and harder than cork; it transmits vibration from the blank through the reel seat with less dampening than cork; at the 0.6–7g lure range of the Limited Edition, the vibration signals from lure action are extremely subtle; maintaining those signals through a less-dampening reel seat material contributes to bite detection at the very limit of what is possible with micro lure fishing
• Grip surface: wood provides a warm, naturally textured grip surface that does not absorb water or deteriorate in the way that cork can chip and degrade over time; a solid wood seat maintains its surface quality across the rod’s life without the crumbling and cracking that affects lower-grade cork seats

Carbon Fibre Handle

Where the standard REFLEX ARC uses a cork grip, the Limited Edition uses a carbon fibre handle. The choice has three practical consequences:

• Weight: a carbon fibre handle is lighter than a cork handle of the same dimensions; at 4.9ft total rod length, the balance point of the rod is near the reel seat; a lighter handle section maintains this balance point closer to the grip, reducing the lever arm of the rod’s weight on the wrist during the flick casting stroke

The Limited Edition breaks down into 4 sections for transport. At 4.9ft fishing length (approximately 150cm), a 4-piece breakdown produces sections of approximately 38–40cm each — compact enough to fit in the included carbon fibre rod case, which travels in a backpack or carry-on luggage. This makes the Limited Edition the only rod in the PURELURE range that can be taken on an aircraft as carry-on without requiring a separate hard rod case. The joint system maintains the REFLEX ARC blank’s continuous flex profile through all three joint points — the blank’s mid-section loading behaviour is preserved in the assembled 4-piece rod.

Included Carbon Fibre Rod Case

The Limited Edition includes a carbon fibre rod case with a metal end cap and a canvas rod bag.
