The PURELURE TORRENT is a two-piece fast-action lure rod built on a 30T+40T TORAY carbon blank with Fuji Alconite ring guides, Fuji K-series anti-wrap guides and a Fuji ECS reel seat. Available in spinning and casting configurations in two colours (Red and Purple).

Blank Construction — 30T+40T TORAY Carbon, 45°+90° Cross-Wrap

The TORRENT blank uses two grades of TORAY carbon fibre cloth in a single blank construction:

• 30T carbon — a lower-modulus, higher-elongation carbon that is used in the butt section of the blank where torsional strength and resistance to lateral load are the primary requirements; 30T carbon absorbs the stress of a fish running laterally without the butt section deforming or fracturing
• 40T carbon — a higher-modulus, lighter carbon used in the mid and tip sections where sensitivity and weight reduction are the primary requirements; higher modulus means the fibre is stiffer per unit of weight — the same stiffness can be achieved with less material, producing a lighter tip that transmits lure action and strike detection more rapidly to the angler’s hand

The two carbon grades are laid in a 45°+90° cross-wrap pattern — fibres are applied at both 45 degrees and 90 degrees to the blank’s axis during manufacture. A single-direction wrap resists stress along one axis; the cross-wrap pattern distributes stress across two axes simultaneously, improving resistance to twisting under casting load and lateral bending during the fight. The blank also incorporates reverse winding on both the inner and outer layers, further reinforcing the cross-wrap structure against delamination under repeated high-stress casting cycles.

Fuji Alconite Ring Guides

Fuji Alconite is a proprietary guide ring insert material developed by Fuji as a lighter alternative to their SiC (silicon carbide) rings. Alconite rings are harder than stainless steel, compatible with all line types including braided PE line, and run cooler than stainless rings under the friction of high-speed line flow on a long cast. Cooler running means less heat transferred to the line on cast, which reduces micro-damage to braid coatings and fluorocarbon lines over time. Alconite rings are approximately 30% lighter than equivalent SiC rings, contributing to the reduced tip weight of the TORRENT and improving tip sensitivity.

Fuji K-Series Anti-Wrap Guides

The TORRENT incorporates Fuji K-series guides — a guide frame design where the ring is tilted inward toward the blank at a specific angle. On a standard straight-frame guide, loose line from the reel can wrap around the outside of the frame during the cast, creating a friction point that kills distance and can snap light leaders. The K-series frame’s tilted geometry guides the line through the ring in a controlled path that prevents the line from contacting the outside of the frame, eliminating line wrap on the cast. This is particularly relevant for braid (PE line) which is thinner and more prone to wrapping than monofilament.

Fuji ECS Reel Seat

The TORRENT uses a Fuji ECS (Ergonomic Casting System) reel seat. The ECS is a trigger-style reel seat with an offset, eccentric geometry — the reel foot is positioned slightly off-centre, rotating the reel body into a more natural palm position when the hand wraps around the grip. The offset reduces ulnar deviation — the sideways bending of the wrist required to hold a symmetrically mounted reel in a straight line — which reduces wrist fatigue during extended casting sessions. The metal hood locking mechanism is knurled for secure grip and one-hand adjustment.

Carbon Fibre One-Piece Moulded Grip

The grip section is a one-piece carbon fibre moulded unit rather than a split EVA or cork grip. Carbon fibre is a rigid material with negligible flex compared to EVA foam; vibration and impact signals (lure contact with structure, bottom tap, strike) travel through the blank without being dampened by the grip material before reaching the angler’s hand. The one-piece moulded construction also eliminates the join between grip sections that can become a loose or rattling point in split-grip designs under prolonged use.

Fast Action

The TORRENT is rated fast action — the blank flexes primarily in the top third of the rod, with the butt and mid sections remaining relatively stiff under load. Fast action provides two advantages for lure fishing:

• Casting precision — a stiff butt loads and releases energy quickly, producing a more direct power transfer to the lure on the cast; fast action rods are more accurate for distance casting of lures in the light-to-medium weight range
• Strike detection and hookset — the stiff butt transmits the angler’s hookset force directly to the hook with minimal absorption in the blank; for lure fishing where hooks must be driven through a hard jaw (bass, bream, trevally) on a short, sharp strike, fast action is more effective than moderate or slow action
