The LEYDUN X8 is an 8-strand braided PE fishing line in a vibrant red finish, spooled in 150m lengths. Non-absorbent multilayer coating keeps the line cutting through water without weight gain on repeated casts. Available in 7 line weights from 0.6# (9LB / 0.12mm) to 3.0# (32LB / 0.28mm). Smooth round braid profile for clean guide passage and accurate casting.

Note: Like all PE braided lines, this line may show slight colour bleed on first use in water. The colour returns to normal after initial wetting. This is a normal characteristic of PE braid dye and does not affect line performance or strength.

8-Strand Construction

The X8 uses 8 individual strands braided together rather than the 4-strand construction used on most entry-level braids. More strands at the same diameter produces a rounder, smoother cross-section — a 4-strand braid has a flatter, more rectangular profile with visible strand gaps that catch on guide rings and create friction during the cast; an 8-strand braid fills in those gaps, producing a near-circular cross-section that passes through guide rings with significantly less friction and contact surface. The smoother profile also reduces line noise through the guides and improves the feel of subtle bites transmitted through the line. The higher strand count also distributes the load more evenly across the braid cross-section, improving knot strength at a given diameter compared to a 4-strand equivalent.

Non-Absorbent Multilayer Coating

The X8 is coated with multiple layers of adhesive protective treatment that the product images describe as “St non-absorbent coating — repeated throwing never absorbs water; let the bait fly farther and cut the water fast and hard.” Uncoated PE braid absorbs water between the strands on repeated casting; waterlogged braid is heavier than dry braid, which reduces casting distance and changes the lure’s sink rate and action profile relative to the angler’s expectation from earlier in the session. The non-absorbent coating prevents inter-strand water retention, keeping the line at its dry weight throughout the session for consistent casting distance and lure performance.

Not-Fading Red Colour

The line is finished in a high-visibility red. High-visibility line colour serves two purposes in lure fishing: the angler can track line movement on the water surface to detect bites earlier — a fish picking up a lure and moving with it will move the line before the bite registers as a rod tip movement or reel handle resistance; and line visibility makes it easier to identify line position relative to structure, current seams and other lines when fishing in company. The not-fading treatment is a colour-lock process applied to the braid to slow the UV and water-exposure breakdown of the red dye that causes braid to fade to pink or orange over time. Note that initial first-use colour bleed is normal for PE braid and does not indicate poor colour retention — the not-fading characteristic refers to long-term UV and use resistance, not first-wet dye stability.

Imported Raw Silk Fibre

The spec card lists the material as “Imported Raw Silk” — the marketing term used for UHMWPE (Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene) fibre, the same base material as Dyneema and Spectra. UHMWPE fibre has an extremely high tensile strength-to-diameter ratio compared to monofilament or fluorocarbon at the same breaking strain, which allows PE braid to achieve much thinner diameters than mono at equivalent LB rating. The X8’s thinnest variant (0.6# / 9LB) is only 0.12mm in diameter — a 9LB monofilament would typically run 0.25–0.30mm at the same breaking strain, more than double the diameter. The thinner diameter reduces water resistance on the cast (longer distance), cuts through current more cleanly (better lure control in flow), and allows more line to fit on the spool at a given capacity.
