Ice Silk Fabric

Ice silk is a lightweight polyester or nylon microfibre knit engineered for a cooling sensation on contact with skin. The material conducts heat away from the skin surface more rapidly than standard polyester or cotton, producing a perceptibly cooler feel when first put on and when wet — hence the “ice” designation. Ice silk is not actual silk and does not have the fragility of natural silk; it is durable, wash-stable and resistant to the abrasion common in fishing use (line handling, rock and boat surface contact).

For fishing in Australian summer conditions, ice silk performs two functions simultaneously: it blocks UV radiation from reaching the back of the hand and the palm while the moisture-wicking microfibre structure moves sweat away from the skin surface, keeping the hand cool during long sessions in direct sun.

Half-Finger Design — Protection Where You Need It, Exposed Where You Don’t

The gloves cover the palm, back of hand and the base of each finger, leaving the fingertips exposed from the first knuckle. For fishing, this is the correct balance between sun protection and hand function:

• Fingertip sensitivity — detecting line movement, feeling the weight of a lure on the drop, and sensing bottom contact all require direct skin contact with the line; a full-finger glove eliminates this feedback; the half-finger cut keeps the fingertips free for all line-feel tasks
• Knot tying — fishing knots (Palomar, FG, uni-to-uni, loop knots) require precise finger movement and the ability to feel the line tightening; full-finger gloves slow knot tying and increase error rate; the exposed fingertips allow normal knot tying without removing the gloves

The anti-slip palm maintains grip on wet surfaces without requiring a thick rubber or neoprene coating that would add bulk and reduce hand feel.

Quick-Dry Construction

Ice silk microfibre dries rapidly after contact with water — from spray, rain, fish handling or washing the gloves between sessions. Quick-dry fabric does not retain moisture against the skin, which reduces the clammy, heavy feeling of a wet glove and prevents the maceration (softening and weakening) of skin that occurs when hands are kept in wet fabric for extended periods.
