What Is a Cheburashka (Cheb) Sinker

The Cheburashka sinker originated in Russian lure fishing for perch and pike and has become a standard finesse rig component in European soft plastic fishing. The sinker’s defining feature is a stainless steel wire loop with a spring-loaded snap clip — the hook attaches to the clip by its eye, and the clip opens with finger pressure to release or swap the hook in seconds without retying.

The critical functional difference from a jig head is that the hook is not fixed to the sinker — it hangs and swings freely from the wire loop. On the drop and during the retrieve, the sinker falls on its own trajectory while the hook and soft plastic swing and flutter independently below it. This creates a more natural, erratic presentation than a jig head where the hook and sinker are one rigid unit that falls and moves together. How to Use a Cheb Rig
